Electronics Design Engineer – Edinburgh Sensors & Froilabo

Froilabo develops and manufactures temperature-controlled equipment for sample preparation and preservation in laboratory and industrial applications, including ultra-low-temperature freezers, ovens, and incubators.
Edinburgh Sensors is a world’s leading manufacturers of gas detection instruments and systems for cutting-edge gas sensing solutions. Edinburgh Sensors providing solutions to a number of different industries such as agriculture, HVAC, process control and etc.
Froilabo has sites in France, Romania and a shared R&D hub with Edinburgh Instruments and Edinburgh Sensors in Scotland. Froilabo and Edinburgh Sensors are looking to create a strong engineering team to build the next generation of gas sensing technology and environmentally-friendly freezers.
We are looking to recruit an Electronics Design Engineer to join out Livingston centre.
What You’ll Be Doing
The Electronics Design Engineer will support the Senior Electronics Design Engineer / Program Manager and conducts electronic engineering tasks for new product development, bespoke customer developments and sustainability and product improvement developments. Responsibilities include designing and developing electronic products and systems, ensuring the performance and safety of products meet the specified requirements and standards.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Undertake the design and development of specified projects / products or sub-systems.
- Produce, maintain, record and ensure safe keeping of computerised design documentation.
- Provide technical support to other divisions, production or sales teams as required.
- Remain abreast of state-of-the-art electronics technology and products.
- Undertake off-site visits for design, consultancy, installation, warranty or maintenance of electronic products, as required.
- Undertake any other duties as required.
What You’ll Need to Bring
- Degree or higher in Electrical / Electronic Engineering (Candidate without formal qualifications who can demonstrate relevant experience will also be considered).
- Experience of signal and data processing for control systems, and implementation of HMI modules.
- Understanding of component selection, schematic capturing and PCB layout.
- Coding experience for Firmware in C/C++ and assembler coding.
We’d Also Love to See
- Familiar with manufacturing techniques and product development environment in digital and analogue electronics.
- Willingness to learn Altium and SVN software.

To this end, Froilabo are looking to recruit a Senior Electrical Technician to join our Livingston R&D centre.
What You’ll Be Doing
The Senior Electrical Technician will support the manufacturing team in the operation and R&D team in design and obtain performance data and working to resolve problems such as equipment issues and malfunctions with bias towards electrical installations, circuits, and power distribution systems.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Carry out build, modification and testing of electrical circuits and power distribution units.
- Support wider team with electrical installations, including peer review designs and buddy checking completed works.
- Carry out pre-operation checks on the test pieces and PPAP sample.
- Work with team on continuous improvement activities.
- Generate and follow work instructions.
- Follow company safety standards and report safety issues.
What You’ll Need to Bring
- HNC level in Electrical/Electronic/Mechanical Engineering or similar.
- Experience of lab or industrial environments including safety procedures.
- Experience of electrical installations and build of power distribution units.
- Experience of completing mechanical and/or electrical works on equipment or systems in line with engineering documentation.
- Mechanical and electrical fitting skills.
- Competent user of MS Office packages.
- Ability to read diagrams and schematics (ideally electrical and P&ID).
We’d Also Love to See
- Experience of operating automated software and PLC system.
- Practical working knowledge of sensors, actuators, instrumentation, wiring and control systems.
- Experience of working in a product development or research environment.
- Industrial wiring, e.g., contactors, breakers, 3-hase etc.
- Analogue’s electronics, e.g., resistors, inductors, capacitors, band pass filters etc.

What You’ll Be doing
Reporting to the Group Head of Product, the Marketing & Communications Manager will lead the marketing & graphics team with a remit to provide the Techcomp Group with a fully joined up, collaborative and responsive marketing & communications function. Working across the Techcomp Group of companies, they will own the marketing strategy, establish a consistent tone of voice with compelling stories to drive traffic and develop a unified communications message.
Key Responsibilities will include:
- Marcomms – produce a wide range of online and offline marketing communications materials – high quality brochures, advertisements, direct mail, newsletters, press releases etc. that are in line with brands and corporate identity.
- Global Exhibitions & Conferences – work closely with key stakeholders to identify, book and provide end2end marketing input and support including booth design.
- Content Creation – work closely with the technical teams to create relevant, consistent content at the right level to reach optimal audiences.
- Advertising – digital & print including managing external agencies.
- Budget Management – marcomms for each Group company.
- Team Management – leadership, development and motivation.
- Ownership of company websites – CMS and SERP.
- Deliver bottom line success – review KPIs, track results, monthly reporting.
- Analysis – Track the Company’s website traffic through Google Analytics and Google Ad Words and acting upon the information.

What You’ll Need to Bring
- You’ll be an experienced Marketing Manager with an impressive track record of success leading a multi-functional team.
- Your profile will include developing marketing strategy, managing budgets and key stakeholder management and engagement.
- You’ll enjoy writing innovative, creative copy to a high standard adapting style for different channels and audiences, and will be a stickler for accuracy!
- With broad digital channel marketing expertise to grow audiences you’ll be adept at lead generation and a strong user of SEO, Google Analytics and Google Ad Words; with the ability to act upon the data and track KPI’s. CMS and SERP experience also essential.
- You’ll understand the benefits of collaborative working with the wider technical teams (sales, applications & product management) and be a considered thinker.

To this end, Froilabo are looking to recruit an Electrical Engineer to join our Livingston R&D centre.
What You’ll Be Doing?
The Electrical Engineer designs, tests, and develops electrical systems for refrigeration products, encompassing component selection, distribution of AC/DC power, signal and control wiring, creation of system cable harnesses and wiring diagrams, ensuring product electrical safety and electromagnetic compatibility, and supporting overall product reliability.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Primary engineer for electrical system design: Select components, design system electrical layout and wiring, share in developing unit control systems, ensure the safety and reliability of the electrical subsystem supports the overall system’s safety and reliability.
- Ensure electrical design fulfills relevant regulatory requirements and standards and exceeds them where appropriate.
- Document system wiring and cable harnesses for transfer to production. Ensure product manufacturing and service needs are considered and incorporated during design. Develop test methods for production where appropriate in conjunction with the Production Engineers.
What You’ll Need to Bring
- Relevant experience in electrical engineering design and development, with demonstrated competence in system wiring design and accompanying documentation. Any suitable combination of practical experience and education will be considered, with an emphasis on experience.
- Knowledge of control systems, including relay logic and fail-safe design principles. Demonstrated competence in designing systems to be safe, robust, and reliable, as well as putting in place appropriate testing to prove the same.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards, including electrical safety and EMC, and their implications for design and test; able to identify and apply relevant requirements for markets outside the UK and European Union.
We’d Also Love to See
- Industrial equipment design experience preferred; otherwise, experience with design of systems containing mains-powered rotating equipment, heating elements, etc., preference for products in series production rather than bespoke installations.
- PLC programming experience a plus. Opportunity for growth in this area based on Engineer’s career development interests.
- ATEX or Medical Device design experience a plus.

Refrigeration Design Engineer

To this end, Froilabo are looking to recruit a Refrigeration Design Engineer to join our Livingston R&D centre.
What You’ll Be Doing?
The Refrigeration Design Engineer works with a small team of engineers in developing refrigerated equipment for laboratory environments, including low- and ultra-low-temperature freezers, blast freezers, and refrigerated incubators. The role will require the ability to fit in well as part of a team, whilst also being capable of working independently. As Froilabo’s resident design authority for refrigeration, the role will require international travel to Froilabo’s production site in Romania as well as occasional travel to France.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Design and develop refrigeration circuits, including component selection (compressors, heat exchangers, regulators, etc.), test, and optimization. Create and enact test plans to determine circuit reliability and make appropriate design tweaks based on the data.
- Drive ongoing transition of products to green refrigerants, ensure product compliance to relevant European and foreign regulatory requirements. Monitor changes to the requirements and ensure products and production processes continue to comply.
- Assist the Production Engineers in transitioning refrigeration circuits into production; advise on tools and processes to increase quality and throughput. Consult on refrigeration issues seen in production, working with the Production team to troubleshoot and resolve them.
- Manage a small team of Refrigeration Technicians (1-2) to carry out circuit prototyping, modifications, and test.
What You’ll Need to Bring
- Demonstrated theoretical and practical knowledge of refrigeration circuit design and relevant fluid mechanics (industrial cooling, air conditioning, or similar field), especially knowledge of cascade refrigeration circuits and design for series production.
- Knowledge of the regulations regarding refrigeration systems and pressure equipment (e.g., Pressure Equipment Directive, EN 378-2).
- Knowledge of the different families of refrigerants and the relevant F-GAS and ATEX regulations.
