What is a Laboratory Incubator?
A laboratory incubator is a heated, insulated box used to grow and maintain microbiological or cell cultures. The laboratory incubator maintains optimal temperature, humidity and gaseous content of the atmosphere inside. Many laboratory incubators include a programmable timer which may be set to cycle through different temperatures and humidity levels. The lab incubators vary in size from table-top units to large systems the size of a cupboard.
There are many different types of lab incubators, including dry bath incubators with single or dual blocks, biological oxygen demand (BOD) units ideal for insect or plant studies, shaking incubators, hybridization ovens, bioreactors, and a wide variety of laboratory test chambers.
What is the Purpose of a Laboratory Incubator and where would it be used?
The purpose of a laboratory incubator is to provide a controlled, contaminant-free environment for safe and reliable work with cell and tissue cultures by regulating conditions such as temperature, humidity, and CO2.
Lab incubators are essential for the growth and storage of bacterial cultures, cell and tissue culture, biochemical and haematological studies, pharmaceutical work and food analysis.
Can an oven be used as a laboratory incubator?
Because they both produce heat, ovens and lab incubators are often mistakenly assumed to be the same thing or attempted to be used for the same function. However, the difference is that an oven produces temperatures typically ranging from 93.3 to 316 degrees Celsius, while a lab incubator typically ranges from 15.6 to 48.9 degrees Celsius.
Therefore, an oven cannot be used as a lab incubator because most ovens will not have a low enough temperature that is suitable for using as an incubator.
What types of lab incubators does Froilabo offer?
To adapt to all your needs, Froilabo offers a very wide range of lab incubators for a variety of applications, from 60 litres up to 1,300 litres, with natural or forced convection and with or without refrigeration.
The new generations of Bio Expert Forced Convection incubators and Bio Performance incubators have been designed for precision incubations from room temperature + 5°C to + 100°C. The range of lab incubators are available in 3 volumes: 60, 120 and 240 litres.
The new generation of Bio Refrigerated Expert incubators are designed for incubations from + 0°C to + 100°C and available in 60, 120 and 240 litres. Bio Statique Performance incubators have been designed for precision incubations of powdery products from room temperature +5°C to +65°C and also come in 3 volumes: 65, 125 and 245 liters.
The Coolstore refrigerated large volume incubator is ideally suited for incubation, germination and cultivation applications. The two minimum temperature ranges of 0°C and -20°C proposed expand the areas of use, without altering the metrological performance of homogeneity and stability. These lab incubators are designed for incubations from 0°C to + 60°C and from -20°C to + 60°C and are available in 600 and 1300 litres.
Finally, the Bio Performance Large Volume forced convection incubators provide users with better homogeneity and temperature stability. They have been designed for precision incubations from room temperature + 5°C to + 100°C and are available in 2 volumes: 414 and 714 litres.
All of Froilabo’s lab incubators offer easy-to-use control for incubation activities, colour display of the set and actual temperature in the incubator and safety for the operator, the environment and the product thanks to an over temperature feature.
